The mission of the Pipeline Hazardous Materials Safety Administration (PHMSA) is to protect people and the environment from the risks of hazardous materials transportation. To do this, we establish national policy, set and enforce standards, educate, and conduct research to prevent incidents. We also work with state and local governments, tribes, first responders and the public in order to reduce consequences if an incident does occur. The Outreach and Training branch is responsible for enhancing regulatory compliance through the development of training materials that enable the public to more easily understand and comply with training requirements related to hazardous materials transportation.
